SES Compass Mentor Application 2019-2020

Thank you for your interest in applying to be a SES Compass Mentor for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Being a mentor is a unique, rewarding opportunity. Mentors will work with 3-5 first-year students who identify as first-generation and/or low-income. A mentor's main objective is to assist their mentees as they navigate Northwestern, seek out resources, and find community. The ideal mentor is passionate about helping others, vulnerable and candid about their NU experiences, and has the capacity to prioritize their role as a Compass mentor.

Mentors work between 10-15 hours a week and are expected to:
+ Attend retreats, as needed
+ Attend weekly Monday Professional Development workshops 5:30-7:00pm
+ Attend weekly Friday Mentor & Mentee Workshops 5-7:30pm
+ Participate in bi-weekly 1:1s with SES Staff Mentor
+ Coordinate and facilitate bi-weekly one-on-one with each mentee
+ Coordinate and facilitate quarterly "Pod" Hangouts with all mentees
+ Coordinate and facilitate 1-2 weekend social events per quarter
+ Create and facilitate 1-2 workshops per quarter
+ Assist with front desk coverage at SES as needed
+ Assist with other SES initiatives as needed
+ Complete PIE Facilitator Training
+ Complete Red Watch Band Training


If selected, Mentors will be required to attend the events listed below before the start of the 2018-2019 academic year:

+ Saturday 09/21 9:00am-5:00pm: Compass Mentor Orientation

Compass programming begins Monday September 30th.

Mentors are paid $3000 pre-tax
(Mentors will be paid $500 pre-tax at the beginning and end of each quarter beginning Fall 2019)
Work-study strongly preferred, but not required.

Application & Interview Information:

The application is due Tuesday, April 2nd at 11:59 pm
*For each answer, we recommend at least 150-200 words.

This is a two-round interview process.
If you are selected for the second round, you will be contacted by April 5th and invited for an in person interview.
