2023-24 Community Engagement Coalition Grant Application

2023-24 Community Engagement Coalition Grant Application

The Community Engagement Coalition aims to foster civic engagement values and create the infrastructure on campus to support a social justice/civic and community engagement minded-community.

Community Engagement Coalition Fund Guiding Principles

*Increase meaningful connections between Northwestern University and the local community.

Projects should contribute to enriching the connections between students at Northwestern University and the surrounding communities, including Evanston and Chicago. Priority will be given to projects that contribute to educating students about community concerns, enable students to travel to engage in direct service-learning, or increase opportunities for students to reflect on their experiences.

*Have clearly defined, measurable outcome(s) within a proposed time frame.

Projects should have a mechanism for evaluation and follow-up after funding has been disbursed. Projects must be completed within the academic year.

*Contain a component of direct student involvement.

All projects should be led and implemented by students with guidance from advisors and community leaders.

*Make an effort to adhere to best practices in community engagement.

Projects should:
Do no harm.
Ensure mutual benefit and equity in all collaborative partnerships.
Emphasize listening to and learning from the community.
Offer opportunities for all participants to reflect and offer feedback.
Give thoughtful attention to potential and actual unintended consequences of the work.

*Applications will be received on a rolling basis with decisions received within 21 days of submission. (Transfer of money into a SOFO account could take an additional 7 days)
*No group can request more than $250 during one academic year.
