Thank you for your interest in the Summer Academic Workshop (SAW). The SAW Application will close Monday, June 2. Northwestern University's Summer Academic Workshop (SAW) is a fully funded 3-week program for incoming students, taking place right before Wildcat Welcome. SAW is facilitated by SES in partnership with the Cook Family Writing Program and the School of Communication. Students who participate in SAW: Receive course credit for an English 100 writing course designed to strengthen their writing skills and a School of Communication course introducing communication as a dynamic process. Engage in cultural and social co-curricular workshops and events curated by SES that provide them with a wealth of resources for navigating college life Participate in Off Campus Excursions that allow students to explore the Chicagoland area and/or build on the content from the academic course. Past excursions have included Six Flags, the Chicago Architecture tour, etc. SAW is an all-cost covered program— including housing, meals, tuition, afternoon workshops, and weekend social opportunities. Students live together in a campus residence hall and experience Northwestern life under the mentorship of upper-class peer counselors.
